Global Warming Myths

Global warming has risen as a subject of debate and concern among the world population. As with any phenomena with subjective focus, information on global warming is witnessing a mixture of facts and myths floating around the interested communities.

Incidences of high temperatures across the globe are attributed to global warming. Though such incidences are confirmed by factual readings on the basis of a short term impact, it also contributes to global warming myths prevalent among the masses. Readings acquired by satellite and balloon observatories in the last 30 years show no noteworthy change or futuristic increase in global temperatures. Ground level observatories show a mild increase that can be attributed to natural tendency of climate variation. The recordings are influenced by the locations. In many areas, the ground level observatories are located in concrete jungles and industrial areas. These observatories show significant increased temperatures when compared to the recordings of similar observatories in rural areas. Change in temperature can be better attributed to the difference of temperature between heat islands and land use effects than global warming per se. The readings show that there is no catastrophic change in temperature and prove that it is one of the global warming myths with no significant scientific basis.

One of the global warming myths talks about gradual temperature increase over the millennium with a sudden surge in temperatures in recent times. Geologists contribute the climatic change to evolution of time. History has witnessed sequential alternates of warming periods and ice ages. Though the 17th century has initiated the gradual increase in global temperature, the decades of 1940-1970 saw the global cooling scare where the average global temperature actually went down.

Carbon-dioxide emitted by human activity is a major contributor of greenhouse gas emissions and thus plays a major role in global warming. This is another of the global warming myths triggering widespread discussions and huge technology research and investments. Industrial growth and evolution have long been the cause of the gradual increase of carbon in the atmosphere. Rate of increase has been constant with no major variation in the last 25 years. Scientists highlight that the levels of carbon in the atmosphere move up and down based on climate change. Carbon emissions are the results of global warming and have no role to play in the global warming cause as confirmed by geological field works. Evidence clearly points out that astronomical influences such as solar radiation and galactic changes trigger temperature changes either way resulting in carbon emissions. Carbon as a cause of global warming or a common greenhouse gas is proved to be the most common of the global warming myths.
