Global Warming Causes
Global warming causes are a term that signifies the overall increase in temperatures on Earth. Just a small increase in temperature levels can cause havoc in the form of climatic conditions and weather changes. Global warming causes are the effects of the heating up of earth at a very unsuitable rate, which in turn have begun to have a dramatic impact on all our lives. The threat is not only of rising heat on earth, but also that the very existence of all life on our planet is threatened. The severity of storms, their frequency, rising sea levels, hurricanes, tornadoes, tsunamis, droughts, flash floods, rising levels of air pollution, massive crop failures, uncontrollable forest fires, etc. cause damage to animal and plant species which in turn place additional strains on our environment.
Global warming causes are given below:
It is a phenomenon which is occurring on our planet due to our own lack of awareness and carelessness. Deforestation is a major problem which has lead to global warming. Despite the knowledge that rain forests and the tall trees therein are the lungs of our mother earth, we have felled trees to such a great extent that the atmospheric carbon dioxide cannot be absorbed fully by the few remaining trees, and this has caused carbon levels to rise to a great degree. The supply of timber for consumer goods has been the major cause of deforestation.
Green house gases are a part of our existence, but as the level increased with the population increase, some of the gases have built up too much and the carbon cycle is not completed due to depleted forest cover. This is also another of the global warming causes. The natural process of green house gases being made has gained momentum to a very fast speed, and this increase has begun to show its effect on our lives.
One can experience global warming in the cities, because of the burning of fossil fuels. Just driving the car gives out emissions of carbon monoxide. With so many fuel guzzling vehicles on the road, the emissions are too heavy for the atmosphere to absorb and this layer of carbon causes the earth extensive damage. The three main areas of modern living - transportation, housing, and industry all give out manmade CO2 emissions. A comparative study shows that transportation causes 22%, housing 33%, and industry gives out 41% of emissions of carbon.
The most obvious effect of global warming is the melting of polar ice. Every year, the ice sheets of the Arctic Circle are growing smaller. Large numbers of glaciers are disappearing completely .This melting of ice is causing floods, flash floods, and sea levels have risen causing the climate to become erratic in many places. Heavy rains, rising seas, hurricanes and wildfires are the new age disasters which are constantly causing damage to life and property on earth.
More than 16,000 plant and animal species have almost become extinct. This is caused as much by humans as well as the changing climatic scenario of the planet. Strong measures need to be taken on individual, group, national and international levels to curb this threat which is looming above Earth. By careful use of the abundance of green cover which has been provided to us, the recklessness of our actions can be curbed and global warming causes can be checked.
